Throughout the Bible there is a Promise of God that He would pour out His Holy Spirit on those who believe His Word. Indeed He promises that His Spirit would be poured out on all flesh. In Ephesians we read:-

Ephesians 1:13-14

New American Standard Bible (NASB)

13 In [a]Him, you also, after listening to the message of truth, the gospel of your salvation—having also [b]believed, you were sealed in [c]Him with the Holy Spirit of promise, 14 who is [d]given as a pledge of our inheritance, with a view to the redemption of God’s own possession, to the praise of His glory.

When a discussion arose between Peter and the other Jews, in Cornelius's house, they questioned whether gentiles should be Baptised, as Peter was preaching to them about Jesus the Holy Spirit came upon all those that heard the message and believed. This is what the scriptures say about this event:-

Acts 10:44-48

New American Standard Bible (NASB)

44 While Peter was still speaking these words, the Holy Spirit fell upon all those who were listening to the [a]message. 45 All the [b]circumcised believers who came with Peter were amazed, because the gift of the Holy Spirit had been poured out on the Gentiles also. 46 For they were hearing them speaking with tongues and exalting God. Then Peter answered, 47 Surely no one can refuse the water for these to be baptized who have received the Holy Spirit just as we did, can he?” 48 And he ordered them to be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ. Then they asked him to stay on for a few days.

We read in the Bible that Jesus says that no one can come to Him unless he is drawn to Him by His Father, and this through the Holy Spirit.

Inspired by these words the "Empowered by the Holy Spirit" evenings are for people of all faiths as well as for those with no faith, with the hope that as they hear the talks and messeges of God's Love for everyone the Spirit of God may come upon them, and that through this they may become part of Christ's body, the Church.

In addition to this, this regular event is for those who need to be renewed and empowered by the Holy Spirit, to live the Christian life.

These "Empowerment" days and evenings are generally held between 2 and 4 times a year. Please check the Calendar under Events for actual times and dates.

This programme is used as a stepping stone for "Life in the Spirit Seminars" for those who want to find out more and to get deeper into the faith, through the empowerment of the Holy Spirit.

If you would like to read about the discussion Jesus had with Nicodemus, about being reborn by the Spirit, and about God's love for us, you can read it here, below:-

John 3

New American Standard Bible (NASB)

The New Birth

Now there was a man of the Pharisees, named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews; this man came to Jesus by night and said to Him, “Rabbi, we know that You have come from God as a teacher; for no one can do these [a]signs that You do unless God is with him.” Jesus answered and said to him, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born [b]again he cannot see the kingdom of God.”

Nicodemus *said to Him, “How can a man be born when he is old? He cannot enter a second time into his mother’s womb and be born, can he?” Jesus answered, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. Do not be amazed that I said to you, ‘You must be born [c]again.’ The wind blows where it wishes and you hear the sound of it, but do not know where it comes from and where it is going; so is everyone who is born of the Spirit.”

Nicodemus said to Him, “How can these things be?” 10 Jesus answered and said to him, “Are you the teacher of Israel and do not understand these things? 11 Truly, truly, I say to you, we speak of what we know and testify of what we have seen, and you do not accept our testimony. 12 If I told you earthly things and you do not believe, how will you believe if I tell you heavenly things? 13 No one has ascended into heaven, but He who descended from heaven: the Son of Man. 14 As Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of Man be lifted up; 15 so that whoever [d]believes will in Him have eternal life.

16 “For God so loved the world, that He gave His [e]only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life. 17 For God did not send the Son into the world to judge the world, but that the world might be saved through Him. 18 He who believes in Him is not judged; he who does not believe has been judged already, because he has not believed in the name of the [f]only begotten Son of God. 19 This is the judgment, that the Light has come into the world, and men loved the darkness rather than the Light, for their deeds were evil. 20 For everyone who does evil hates the Light, and does not come to the Light for fear that his deeds will be exposed. 21 But he who practices the truth comes to the Light, so that his deeds may be manifested as having been wrought in God.”
