Street Missions

Street Missions were inspired by the Missionaries of Charity (MC) based at Dowlais, Merthyr.

They go out into the Streets of Cardiff, usually on the 1st Friday of the month, with the help of volunteers; they pray, sing hymns, and give out religious cards and rosaries. They engage in conversation with those interested in finding out more.

Members of the St David's Cathedral Renewal Fellowship have supported them in this Mission, as it also falls within our own aims and objectives.

In addition to these regular missions of going out, the Missionaries of Charity also carry out additional missions, such as:-

  1. "The Living Crib" during Advent, where the Nativity message is acted out along with Hymns and narration readings from the Gospel of Luke. People are given little gifts as they stand to watch or pass by.
  2. "Stations of the Cross" are prayed in procession through the City Centre. This is usually carried out during Lent, leading up to Holy Week.
  3. Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Rosary Procession through the streets of Cardiff City Centre; from the Cornerstone to Cardiff Castle.
  4. "Feeding of the Poor & Homeless"  - This are special evening where they are taken for a meal, or are brought to the Cornerstone to have a meal. This is usually usually carried out, in Advent and Eastertide.

Since the MC base these activities from St David's Cathedral, and the Cornerstone, the St David's Cathedral Renewal Fellowship offer our support and any SDCRF volunteers who would like to help them in this partner mission.

more about this in due course, including some photos of past events.
